Princeton Engineering Services (PES) is providing electrical design and construction administration services for the upgrade of the existing public address system.
The existing public address system is old and in poor condition. Many rooms do not have a local sound system. Other rooms have inaudible or non-functional speakers.
The poor system condition creates a life safety concern, because the teachers are not able to communicate effectively in the event of an emergency.
The main design challenge is that the existing public address system is not expandable for upgrading and that the original parts are no longer manufactured. PES’ solution is to install a new public address system and four local sound systems. The one existing local sound system is connected to the new public address system.
New speakers with volume controls are being installed in several rooms and a new central control rack is being installed in the general office. Also, a new induction loop assistive listening system is being added. The system will be made fully functional by provisioning a 120-volt connection to the school’s existing emergency lighting panel and by providing low voltage wiring and conduits.
